Tips on Finding the Right Putter

Your golf score is dependent upon your short game. The only tools that you have to work with on the green are your putter and your mind. While you cannot get a new brain, you can get a new putter. Use your brain and these tips to find a putter that will be perfect for you and lower your scores on the golf course.

No matter where you go to buy a putter, make sure that there is a practice green available for you to test it on. Just trying it in a store is not going to help; you need to get on real grass and hit a few balls before you decide. So if you are thinking of going to a big box store to save a buck or two on your putter, go to the pro shop first and test one on a green before deciding. Then, if you are so inclined, shop around for the best price on the one you choose.

The perfect putter will have the right balance for you. The putter may have perfect balance, but when you hold it, but if it does not feel balanced to you, then it will make a difference in your game. You do not want a majority of your putts going left or right because your putter does not feel balanced.

Your stance and alignment are critical to your short game. When testing your putter, make sure you are aligned properly and are in your best stance. If you do not practice and test with a feeling that you are actually playing the game, when you do play for the first time with your putter, it will feel different than it did when you tested it.

When taking some practice putts with a putter you are thinking of buying, watch the roll of the ball off the club head. You need to be able to make your putts roll properly to the hole, so if it does not roll off of the club face the way you anticipate, then move to the next club. You do not want to be on the green facing a 60 foot putt when you realize the ball is not rolling off the club face right.

One of the most downplayed aspects of buying a new putter is the feeling the putter gives you when you use it. This "feeling" is very important because if the putter does not feel right, it is going to impact your game. Golf is such a mental sport that requires complete concentration and focus, if anything does not feel right with your equipment, it is going to impact your game.

Golf pros and amateurs alike all struggle on the green at some point in time. The green can be the nemesis that gives you higher scores no matter what your level of expertise. These tips presented above will help you choose the right putter so that you can at least take the putter out of the mind/putter relationship and lower your scores.
